Your task is to construct buildings for resources in your realm that will ensure its prosperity and help you repel attacks from your enemies. You can trade with friends to achieve your goals and eventually become the sole prosperous empire. You can defeat your foes both economically and militarily. You can defend yourself and create an impregnable fortress for your realm using miles of walls. Alternatively, you can employ intrigues and not reveal to your enemies until the last second that you have prepared a secret plan to dominate the playing field.

Throughout the game, you must communicate with the rulers of other realms and balance the power of individual realms. If one realm dominates, according to the proverb "the enemy of my enemy is my friend," you must tip the scales in your favor without squandering any of your resources. A successful realm is one that can control the scales of fate without cost.
