Who are we?

We are Herpetology.cz and for years we have been filming documentaries about reptiles and amphibians, that we encounter during our adventurous expeditions! We bring you exclusive footage from the lives of these fascinating creatures and glimpses into forgotten corners of the world! You can also read photo reports about our expeditions on our website. In our documents you will hear original music, composed by the cameraman, documentary director and author of this project - Tomáš Dino Holer. We create everything for fun and we have no profit and now you, here at Startovač, can support us in our activities!

What do we want?

We would like to purchase new equipment, especially a drone, which would enhance our documents with aerial footage and show you the beauty of nature and the landscape from a bird's eye view.

Expedition Speleomantes 2024

Our latest documentary focuses on cave salamanders of the genus Speleomantes. We went to search for them in northern Italy - Liguria and Tuscany. Cave salamanders belong to the family of lungless salamanders. Yes, they really do not have lungs and breathe only through their skin! Their reproduction is also interesting and unique. Most amphibians go through an aquatic larval stage. But not cave salamanders! They have direct development and their young hatch from eggs hidden in crevices in the rock. Expedition Andalusia 2024 

Andalusia faced a long drought at the beginning of 2024. However, we had an expedition planned to see the local tailed amphibians and we didn't want to give up. So, despite the bad forecasts, we set out to face the bad weather. How did our journey to the arid landscape waiting for rain turn out? You will find out in the documentary entitled "Expedition Andalusia 2024"!

 

 

 

 

Expedition Samos 2024

The Greek island of Samos is a popular tourist destination. However, even if we go on a family vacation to the sea, lying on the beach does not mean anything to us. And therefore, at least in the morning and evening, when the temperatures are bearable for both us and the reptiles, we go out to explore the surroundings of the apartment.        Expedition Proteus 2024

One of the most mysterious creatures in Europe is undoubtedly the Olm. This salamander lives deep underground in flooded cave systems in the northern Balkans. It is blind and uses electroreceptors to find food. With a tentative plan, we set out to find it in southern Slovenia, and to our surprise, we succeeded!
